In June of 1998, the Province of British Columbia announced its intention to proceed immediately with design and construction of an extension to the existing SkyTrain rapid transit system in the Greater Vancouver Regional District. VIA Architecture was appointed as Overall Systems Designers for this project.

The Rapid Transit 2000 Project is the latest extension to the SkyTrain rapid transit system first opened in 1986. The system features a minimum cross-section guide way, relatively small transit stations, automatic train control and quiet, efficient operations.
