This project is the catalyst for a new urban community in Kuala Lumpur. On a difficult site near a riverbank in a neglected and shabby area of downtown, this project had to respond to a changing existing and future context, both in topography and infrastructure. Our Canadian-led design/build team was asked to rescue this project, a part of the Putra Transit Line built for the 1998 Commonwealth Games, which was delayed and over budget when our work started in 1996. Following a complete redesign that maintained the system’s stringent operational standards, a substantial cost reduction was achieved and the project was built on schedule.
