COMMERCIAL STATION
MILLENNIUM LINE
VANCOUVER, CANADA

At the interchange station between the Expo and Millennium Line, great care was required to avoid disruption of the adjacent neighbourhood above and the Burlington Northern / Santa Fe and Amtrak elevations below within this deep, narrow, operating heavy rail corridor that runs through this residential Vancovuer community.

The stations structure rises 20 metres from the foundations in the cut and bridges over the cut to connect into the existing Broadway Station. Within those demanding constraints and requirements, steel was chosen for the station superstructure because of its ability to be prefabricated off site and inserted into the project without disruption to the existing rail operations. Combining the steel superstructure with glulam beams, roof panels, and skylights results in a design that fits into the community as if it has always been there.
