Vancouver's waterfront will soon be the site of a new landmark building.

VIA Architecture is designing a new 15,000 seat outdoor stadium, home for the Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club. In addition to world class soccer, the stadium is capable of hosting other major international sporting and cultural events, and has the potential to be expanded to 30,000 seats.

Built above the existing Canadian Pacific Railway tracks adjacent to Waterfront Station, it will be the most transit friendly stadium in North America with direct access to Skytrain, RAV, SeaBus, and West Coast Express, as well the heliport, float planes, Harbour Lynx and numerous bus links.

Due to be completed in 2009, the stadium will showcase sustainable building practices along with the best of British Columbia design, construction and building materials.
