Junior Accountant (Vancouver)

VIA Architecture is a strategic architectural and planning firm with offices in Vancouver, BC; Seattle, WA and Oakland CA. Highly networked across three offices, ours is a highly interactive studio-based practice concentrated in urban planning, transit systems planning and design and architecture for urban mixed-use development.

We are looking for a Junior Accountant – either full or part-time – in our Vancouver office to manage the general accounting and financial processes of our Canadian practice.

Under the supervision of the Controller, you will be responsible for performing a various day-to-day accounting tasks, including posting financial transactions, preparing bank reconciliations, cheque runs, client billing, assist in documentation for year end audit, expense reports, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

The right individual will have a strong work ethic, sense of accountability and analytical capabilities, a high level of initiative, adapt well to change and work quickly and accurately as part of a team.

Performance Expectations

  • Develop technical skills in the various areas of day-to-day accounting
  • Set-up files for new clients in the accounting system, manage multiple client files simultaneously
  • Process or assist the Controller in processing accounts receivable, accounts payable, capital asset acquisition and disposition and payroll and month end closing
  • Summarize current financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statements and other relevant reports
  • Review, investigate and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries, documents and reports
  • Establish charts of accounts and prepare entries for posting to accounts.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of VIA’s services, businesses and industry
  • Liaise and correspond professionally with clients, colleagues and the VIA leadership team
  • Analyze financial reporting for accurate and appropriate recording of revenues and expenses
  • Raise identified issues that need to be addressed with project managers.
  • Work with project managers to manage their project budget and assist in resource planning
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes while effectively using VIA internal programs and systems

Credentials

  • Successfully obtained, or working towards, a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Accounting or Finance major preferred)
  • Completion of, or working towards, all necessary prerequisites for admission into the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Professional Education Program (PEP) upon commencement of employment / would be an asset
  • Previous accounting experience is preferred, experience in the project accounting is an asset
  • Experience working with, or exposure to Deltek Vision is beneficial
  • Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
