Junior Architectural Designer (Oakland / San Francisco)

In our three regional offices, Oakland/San Francisco, Seattle, and Vancouver BC, VIA is designing the shape of cities to come, from the early design concepts, to construction documentation. We provide meaningful place-based solutions to large-scale infrastructure, contributing to urban design, architecture and planning for a broad variety of public sector clients primarily on the West Coast.

VIA Architecture is a studio-based 75-person firm. We are currently seeking a Junior Architectural Designer for our growing Oakland/SF-office to work on urban design, station, bridge, and civic infrastructure projects. The candidate will work closely with our cross-disciplinary teams in Seattle and Vancouver, and with our bridge and transit team in Oakland and San Francisco. The candidate will assist with all aspects of project design, including site evaluations and analysis, graphic presentations, production, model building and document development. The candidate should be open to splitting time between the San Francisco and Oakland offices depending on project needs, as well as travel as required to project sites in the Pacific Northwest.

Experience Requirements

  • 2 years minimum of professional experience in design and production of medium to large-scale projects

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor of Architecture Degree or other discipline
  • Master of Architecture or Urban Design preferred

  • Passionate and involved in community building at all scales
  • Interested in developing a skillset at the intersection of architecture, planning and civil engineering
  • Interest in improving the regional and national transit landscape through work on stations, bridges and urban infrastructure

Key Skills

  • Demonstrated 3D design skills
  • Strong Rhino, Sketchup and Creative Suite skills, working knowledge of additional programs such as AutoCAD, Revit, Civil3D or GIS considered an asset
  • Excellent visual storytelling, writing skills an asset
  • Comfortable participating and presenting in public or workshop settings
  • Strong graphic sensibility and hand rendering a plus

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time permanent position. VIA provide a competitive salary with full medical, dental and vision insurance, FSA & 401K plan. We also provide support for licensure, AIA & other community-based activities.
