For Dale Rickard, architecture occupies that time of day between breakfast and tennis. Since his science fair stardom dimmed at age 13, Dale has bided his time with science and archaeology, art school, a degree in architecture history, and museum exhibition design. He finally settled on an architecture degree from UBC through the urging of his family and architect-grandfather. The stage was set following a tour of homes by Charles Rennie Mackintosh Glasgow, a striking moment in Isphehan's "Maiden's Castle" and a walk though the streets of Venice. This led to a focus on the growth and development of cities and how transit shapes them. He's had the opportunity to do just that as designer for Vancouver's Expo Line, Millennium Line, and Canada Line but he knows that architecture can't last forever and is hedging his bets on the future by restoring old wooden boats.
