Neah Bay Be?is Beach House

In collaboration with the Pomegranate Center, VIA’s Community Design Studio provided design services for a free-standing beach house pavilion in Neah Bay, WA for the Makah Tribe.

Situated on the dramatic Pacific Ocean-facing shore known as Hobuck Beach, the pavilion is located near the northwest tip of the contiguous United States.

Features:

  • Covered space provides gathering space for Tribe’s community events and dance rehearsals
  • Separate artist studio designed to accommodate carving and weaving activities
  • Heavy timber columns are designed as totems and carved and finished by local artists
  • The team and tribe donated time for a hands-on Build Event to complete construction of the beach house
