Metro Vancouver, BC
As a long awaited element to the region's Transport 2021 plan, this 11-km line extends the existing regional transit system by linking neighbourhoods in Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam. Originally envisioned as at-grade LRT, the line was planned to be both a local and regional transit system as well as a tool for shaping land use and transit-oriented development.
VIA led the conceptual planning process for civil design, urban design and architecture during 2005-2006. This included horizontal and vertical light rail alignments, system-wide station design standards and the development of tunnel portals. VIA is now continuing work on this alignment as an ALRT route.
