Greater Vancouver, BC
The Expo Line is Vancouver's first elevated light rail rapid transit system and was completed in 1986. VIA's scope included alignment planning, the development of the system-wide kit of parts for all stations and the detailed design of Nanaimo, Burrard, Granville, Waterfront, Columbia and Gateway Stations. VIA also designed later modifications to the Stadium Station such as the southern entrance for GM Place and the eastern entrance with the Keefer Steps and Beatty entry court.
We are particularly happy with Burrard Station, in the heart of downtown Vancouver. It was designed to accommodate the City's request for a park associated with the station entrance. The result is a well loved park and an inner-city greenhouse in the heart of the business district.
Winner of the 1989 Premier's Award for Accessible Design and the American Society of Landscape Architects Award in 1990.
