Vancouver, BC

As team members in the redevelopment of the former Expo 86 site, VIA worked on this project from the initial policy planning to the construction of several buildings. The 166 acre project has transformed Vancouver over a period of twenty years with an objective to achieve a set of connected, lively and pedestrian-oriented urban neighbourhoods. Concord Pacific's build-out has since demonstrated the success of many of VIA's concepts for achieving livability and public amenity, and enhancing commercial value.

VIA's work on this project included designing new streets and infrastructure, the identification and exploration of high density tower forms and their associated design standards, urban design principles and the inclusion of a significant amount of community amenity through the use of Vancouver's unique discretionary zoning.

In addition to VIA's role on the joint venture design teams for the False Creek North Official Development Plan, we completed a series of related opportunities within Concord Pacific, including:
-Quayside neighbourhood rezoning
-GM Place rezoning
-Roundhouse Neighbourhood master plan
-International Village design guidelines, rezoning and architecture

Concord Pacific at False Creek North now houses a population of 13,000 with 7,900 housing units, and 1,380 non-market units. The area also includes David Lam Park, schools, daycare, and the adaptive re-use of the former Canadian Pacific Railway Roundhouse building as a well loved community centre.
