Vancouver, BC
As a component of TransLink's Urban Transportation Showcase, this project focused on improving the transit and pedestrian experience along one of Vancouver's busiest thoroughfares. VIA led the consultant team in evaluating urban design initiatives that could be applied to Main Street to target desired pedestrian improvements.
Following up on a corridor wide analysis, VIA developed a 'toolkit' of urban design options, which were then applied at specific locations determined to be in most need of improvement. Combined with parallel improvements to transit objectives - including trip timing, bus stop locations, and bus laning - these proposed initiatives will greatly improve the pedestrian experience along Main Street and make it an example for the rest of the City's streets.
