As part of TransLink's $5.6 million Urban Showcase project, VIA led an interdisciplinary team to evaluate the pedestrian and transit quality of Main Street, one of the region's busiest bus corridors. The project resulted in a "Tool Box" of interventions on a block by block basis. Our recommendations helped to improve linkages between cycling and transit use, shorten pedestrian crossing times, improve pedestrian safety, and enhance the vitality of the streetscapes.
Combined with parallel improvements to reduce bus delay, such as trip timing, bus stop locations, and bus laning, the initiatives will greatly improve the overall experience along Main Street.
