We are providing site planning support and building evaluation services to Seattle Tilth and the Friends of the Atlantic City Nursery for the new "Rainier Beach Urban Farm" in Seattle's Rainier Valley. The group is working with the Seattle Parks Department to re-purpose the former Parks Nursery site to community agriculture use. Challenges on the site include rehabilitation of several greenhouse/shadehouse structures, and site planning to maintain wetland setbacks while permitting appropriate agricultural uses. The site will not only provide a source of fresh food in an underserved area of the city, but will also be a valuable community resource and youth training facility.
