After several years of work to assemble the land and secure development rights for a 900,000 square foot mixed-use development on the Arizona Canal at the heart of the Scottsdale Waterfront, the developers needed a plan that matched function with an appropriate sense of place.

VIA created an urban design narrative to shape the form and character of the evolving functional plan. A unique design language was developed that was an authentic reflection of the 2400-year history of this site as a trading post along the Salt River, and as a complement to old Scottsdale across the Arizona Canal.
