VIA Job Openings: Oakland Architect + Vancouver Admin Assistant

We are seeking a mid-to-senior-level Urban Infrastructure Architect for our growing Oakland office.

About this position

We see this position as an opportunity to learn the “VIA way” to manage and design urban infrastructure while advancing your project management and practice leadership skills and responsibilities.

Responsibilities will generally be those of a project architect and might include:

  • Project management;
  • Project communications and consultant coordination;
  • Key role in all phases of design – from conceptual design through construction documentation –  with an emphasis on leading consultant and/or in-house design and documentation teams;
  • Self-directed research and development of building assemblies and details and their coordination with specifications;
  • Implementation of CAD and BIM standards and construction document production using Revit.

Experience Requirements

  • Architect or urban designer with 10 years of professional practice centered in complex multi disciplinary infrastructure projects such as transit or bridge work;
  • Licensed Architect (California License strongly preferred).

  • Career focus on urban design, architecture, sustainability, transportation planning or economic development
  • Dedicated team player, excellent communicator, with demonstrated detailed execution of complex urban infrastructure projects;
  • Experienced in the development of project scopes, budget management, and business development;
  • Proven team leader: responsible for design team (or sub-group of a larger team) performance, deliverables, and/or consultant coordination;
  • Experienced in the technical coordination of collaborative design disciplines, including integrated project delivery and 3-dimensional resolution of technical issues;
  • Experienced with high scrutiny public projects, outreach, and preparation of graphic presentation material.

We are also seeking a part-time Receptionist/Office Assistant (22.5 hrs/week) in our Vancouver office.

About this position

The right individual will have strong communications skills, a high level of initiative, adapt well to change, and work collaboratively as part of several teams including administration, accounting and IT.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Represent office as first point of contact for general inquiries by phone and for visitors to the office
  • Greet visitors and offer refreshments, order & set up requested refreshments/catering for meetings
  • Maintain and tidy meeting rooms and office-wide common areas
  • Organize and facilitate weekly staff meetings
  • Track and organize office supplies
  • Make travel arrangements for staff and clients as needed
  • Coordinate with vendor companies on support calls, ordering and invoicing
  • Assist Controller with light bookkeeping to include bank deposits, filing, reconciliation and reporting
  • Provide support for IT problems requiring physical hands-on support including light troubleshooting of hardware and software, workstations, monitors, printers and set up of AV for meetings
  • Other clerical/support duties as needed

Key Skills

Applicants must meet minimum experience and skill qualifications to be considered for this position:

  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills
  • Team player that is willing to do a variety of tasks as needed
  • Good/Excellent Microsoft Word and Excel skills
  • Reception experience in a professional office environment strongly preferred
  • Experience in IT and/or Accounting support an asset
