ROUNDHOUSE COMMUNITY
CENTRE VIA’s role in leading the rezoning and urban design for this new waterfront neighbourhood of 1000 residential units in six mid and high rise developments led to the firm’s commission as the architects for the Roundhouse Cultural Community Centre at the heart of the community. Integrating theatre, dance, exhibition spaces as well as a gymnasium and multi-purpose rooms, this renovation and addition to the old CPR Roundhouse machine shops also included the creation of a new display ‘shed’ to house Engine 374, which pulled the first trans-continental train into Vancouver in May 1887.
