Canada Line SkyTrain Stations
Metro Vancouver, BC
VIA’s scope included prototypical work for 17 stations including each station’s schematic design. Upon contract award, VIA carried out detailed design and construction for three underground and two elevated stations: Waterfront, Vancouver Centre, Yaletown, Marine Drive, and Bridgeport.
Marine Drive station is the first elevated side platform station as the alignment emerges from the Cambie Street Tunnel before crossing the Fraser River on the North Arm Bridge. Although it was initially designed to function as a bus transfer center, integration with a future large adjacent mixed use development was incorporated into the design.
Bridgeport Station is an elevated mezzanine centre platform station located immediately after the guideway crosses the North Arm Bridge but before it splits between YVR-Airport and Richmond-Brighouse lines. Consequently, the station was designed to accommodate extensive platform transfers. The station design also incorporated an extensive bus transfer center, a 1,200 space park and ride, and direct access to the adjacent mixed use casino development.
The other three stations, Yaletown, City Centre, and Waterfront were all planned for encouraging transfer movements to downtown buses.
