Granville SkyTrain Station Upgrades
Vancouver, BC
VIA’s extensive expertise on the Expo Line’s underground stations, Millennium Line, and 98-B Line led to our conducting a system-wide accessibility review of TransLink’s assets. In the course of this work, VIA identified the opportunity for joint development of a new station house at Granville Station. Enabling the rezoning and expansion of the development plan, this integration has resulted in the construction of a new station house with full public access for the same cost to TransLink as a stand-alone elevator for disabled access.
This Granville SkyTrain Station addition is a new tunneled entry to the existing 20-year-old underground station, through The Hudson, a new mixed use residential and commercial project (designed by Stantec Architects). The project was carefully designed to integrate with existing heritage buildings, to connect with intermodal bus transfers, and to provide handicapped elevator access to a previously inaccessible station.
