Jasper Place Transit + Land Use study
Edmonton, AB
The City of Edmonton has invested significant resources in Jasper Place through a Revitalization Strategy, Business Revitalization Zone, streetscape improvements and three planned LRT stations. As part of this process, the City identified an opportunity to relocate, and integrate the existing Jasper Place transit center with the new LRT station.
VIA led the consultant team, (Nelson Nygaard as lead Transportation Planning) to provide area development planning and bus exchange integration with the anticipated LRT station. The planning and design exercise required close interaction with City departments, stakeholders, and other consultants to address land use implications, impact on adjacent land values and associated expectations for private investment and revenue impacts. The team evaluated choices for both land acquisition and disposition, while maximizing the potential for the pedestrian oriented development.
VIA provided clear 3D visualization and overlays to assist comprehension of complex issues, our work helped to make the best use quantitative standards and metrics to serve clear qualitative outcomes. A final report includes the overall urban design vision and implementation plan.
