Favorite Project & Why
An early project I designed was an affordable net-zero energy duplex in an underserved neighbourhood in Hartford, CT. Working with the client to develop their concept, from the initial floor plan through the construction details, and coordinating a great team of consultants, was both challenging and rewarding, as was engaging with the broader to community to educate them about green building. We used a contextually appropriate Connecticut colonial aesthetic to fit in to the streetscape, and implemented a Passivhaus-inspired building envelope along with an efficient ground-source heat-pump, photovoltaic array, and solar hot-water to meet our client’s net-zero goal.
Favorite Thing About Your Job
For me, architecture is about creating a better world, one building at a time. I love that I get to help people realize their vision for their project, bringing the seed of an idea into concrete reality – there is nothing more satisfying.
Favorite Thing to Do
Getting outside in nature with family and friends to enjoy the sunshine, rain, and snow.
Three Things You Can’t Live Without
A good book, good company, fresh air, coffee; challenging limits.
