Principal
Sofia is an architect with over 20 years of diverse, local and international experience. She grew up in Caracas, Venezuela and from an early age grew to understand that she is inherently an architect on the inside. Her goals to shape the built environment spurred her to, after graduation, open her own multi-disciplinary design studio specializing in innovative and environmentally responsible design, based in Caracas. Her passion throughout her career has been to integrate and create spaces to live and move in, while similarly creating a proven record of continued client satisfaction, creative problem solving and successful outcomes.
With a strong blend of project management skills and the ability to communicate a clear design vision, Sofía has grown her expertise in a myriad of environments. Moving from Venezuela, to Mexico, and now Canada, she continues to lead complex, multi-stakeholder, and multi-disciplinary projects focusing on transit. She has delivered large-scale rail transit and transit-oriented development projects for conventional, public-private partnership, and design-build delivery models.
Favorite Project & Why
All projects I have been involved in, I have put my heart into each one, no matter the size of it. For me, besides executing good designs, it is also about building relationships with clients based on trust and mutual ambition. Capture their ideas and needs, design, develop, and make them real. As an architect, we are not limited by an immediate context or the land we are standing in. It’s our imagination and creativity that is going to take us anywhere we want to go.
Favorite Thing About Your Job
The opportunity to learn as much as I can every day from those around me. As well as design, knowing that architecture is not about a personal goal; it’s a collaborative project to better the world. I want to leave the world a little more connected and beautiful than how I found it. It’s really not more complicated than that. For me, that amounts to creating places that move people — spaces where people feel a little more at ease and at peace with themselves, their loved ones, their community, and the Universe. However, executing those objectives in the context of a holistic approach to sustainability that amplifies social, environmental, economics resilience and well-being is no small feat. I believe you can achieve great things with enough dedication, perseverance, compassion, and perhaps a bit of magic.
Favorite Thing to Do
Spend time with my daughters and learn from them; meet people, culture and places; cooking for the people I love.
Three Things You Can’t Live Without
My two daughters, walking places, and the universe within.
