Surrey Central Exchange Concept Plan
Surrey, BC
VIA worked with the City of Surrey, TransLink and Simon Fraser University (SFU), to reconfigure the Surrey Central SkyTrain Station transit exchange. The new exchange will meet TransLink’s long term capacity needs (rapid transit & local bus), while providing a higher-quality passenger and pedestrian environment, support the City of Surrey’s vision for its City Centre, and facilitate future expansion of SFU.
The study involved the evaluation of multiple bus operation scenarios to address the relocation of pick up/drop off and layover facilities within the urban fabric of Surrey’s emerging City Centre. It included the formation and testing of working concepts against a shared vision of the three project client partners. The successful design of the transit operations facilities is dependent on the realization of a highly-desirable and pedestrian-oriented urban design vision for Surrey City Centre. The project relied on consensus-building between the project partners around the preferred concept in order to move to the detailed schematic design and costing phases.
